We started our first day in Italy by traveling from Ciampiano to Rome and finding our hostel (Hostel Pink Floyd). It was an amazing hostel with a courtyard filled with plants (and our room overlooked the courtyard)! We also had our own room and private bathroom...which was much nicer than what I had in Paris!
After getting settled we started our adventure by going to see the Colosseum...which is even more amazing in real life than in books! We started seeing old ruins before we even got to the Colosseum...which I thought was unbelievable....where else can you walk through a city, and then come upon ancient architecture and ruins???!!! After the Colosseum we made our way over the the Roman Forums, which is another area filled with old pillars...parts of buildings...etc. As the weather was mid 60's and VERY sunny...the walking experience was great!
We also checked out the Campidoglio museum, which has many old sculptures. The rest of the day was spent walking around the streets, crossing the Tiber river, and eating at a very nice little restaurant....where I got an interesting pizza with ham, olives, mushrooms, and an egg on top (see pic!)! After dinner we walked past the Circo Massimo on our way back to the hostel.
We ended our night in the room with a bottle of red wine...not sure what it was, but a local suggested it as good...and that it was, very spicey!
