Our second day was just as busy and exciting as the first. Starting early in the morning, we made our way to the Vatican City, where the Vatican Museum, Basilica S. Pietro, and Sistine Chapel are located....this was truly amazing, especially standing in the Sistine Chapel and seeing the work of Michelangelo (famous painting of the creation of Adam...where the fingers of Adam and God are about to touch). It is overwhelming to be surrounded by this history...but seeing things that I recognize is the most exciting for me...seeing it in real life! The Basilica was huge and beautiful...very ornate!
Afterwards we made our way past the Castle of Sant' Angelo and then walked past a market along the river. After having lunch, we wound our way through Rome, hitting up some hot spots like the Pantheon, Tempio Adriano, and Trevi fountain. From there we jumped on the metro and ended the day at the Spanish Steps watching the sunset over Rome...this was much more beautiful than Paris as we actually could see colors (Paris was more hazy), and again, the temperature was PERFECT!
That night we had dinner close to the hostel, and got our stuff together to head out the next day. We were absolutely beat after walking so much, and taking in so much history!
Here are pics from the second day:
